Why this directory
Barber school takes anywhere from about 1,000 to 1,500 hours, depending on your state, and tuition runs from a few thousand dollars to more than $20,000. Google Maps can't tell you which schools teach at night, take FAFSA or the GI Bill, or teach in Spanish.
We list schools with a barber license program and show what each school's own website says about cost, hours and schedule, plus whether it is approved for federal student aid, from the Department of Education's data.

Questions people ask
- How long is barber school?
- Most states require between 1,000 and 1,500 hours of training for a barber license. Full-time students usually finish in 9 to 12 months; evening and weekend programs take longer. Each school's listing shows its program hours when its website states them.
- How much does barber school cost?
- Published tuition for a full barber program ranges from a few thousand dollars at community colleges to $20,000 or more at some private schools, and many schools charge separately for the tool kit. Where a school publishes its tuition, we show it on the listing and the city page.
- Can I use FAFSA for barber school?
- Yes, at schools approved for federal student aid (Title IV). We mark those schools using the Department of Education's own data, so the label doesn't depend on what a school's website claims. Schools without approval may still offer payment plans.
- Can I go to barber school at night or on weekends?
- Many schools run evening or part-time programs for students who work. Look for schools marked as offering part-time, evening or weekend classes, and check how much longer the part-time schedule takes.
- Can I get a cheap haircut at a barber school?
- Many barber schools run a student clinic where supervised students cut hair for the public at a low price. Schools that say so on their website are marked, with the price when they publish it.
